Costly or Is It?

Landscape Library posted an article 15 February 2024 about grading and why it is costly, but the fact is that these reasons are some of the same reasons landscaping is more costly than your everyday lawn maintenance.

Labour Costs, Equipment Costs, Complexity of the Site, Material Costs, Permitting and Regulations, Accessibility, and Time and Planning.

In my humble opinion, after doing this job for a little while, this is why our company can relate to these reasons for cost:

Labour Costs: Frankly, being in the garden costs a person’s energy, time, and literally can cost life. From risks of getting fingers cut off or burned, insects that can poison or kill (especially if our landscapers do not know the area) and even flipping over in heavy equipment can be costly.

Equipment Costs: When our customers want intricate changes to their gardens, we sometimes have to hire machinery to include anything from a turf roller to an excavator to regrade or even level a yard.

Complexity of the Site: Depending on the meterage and amount of work to be done from pulling old root-filled trees to lawn edging to putting down pavers, there can be various issues that come up from under the ground, or even from annoyed neighbours.

Material Costs: Don’t forget about your bricks, pavers turf, gardening soil that you want to complete your beautiful project. These things aren’t always cheap although there is a range from affordable to luxurious depending on your taste and ability.

Permitting and Regulations: There are council regulations that require licenses and permits for construction over a certain size of a project, so work with your landscaper to see what they need to get your patios and walls completed.

Accessibility: How far is it from your project to the landscapers vehicle and is it easy or difficult for him/her to reach the project. Remember they havev to go back and forth with a wheelbarrow to carry those materials back to the yard!

Time and Planning: If you are designing or remodeling your yard, remember the administrative costs such as the designing of the new yard and the research time it takes when creating youor quote. While the landscapers are working on other projects, they are also multitasking and can even spending their “off time” on your garden ideas.
